Another Death in Professional Boxing

Tanaka passes away
By Joe Koizumi

Sadly and sorrowfully enough, former Japanese 115-pound champ Seiji Tanaka, 28, passed away at 8:43 pm today (Friday) because of brain hemorrhage despite a reportedly successful operation undergone last week.  http://www.fightnews.com/ for more info.

My opinion still stands, if find it very unfortunate and very disheartening.  Who knows if he sustained an undetected injury prior to his fight, or whether he sustained injury sometime during his ten rounds of fighting.

In Japan, it is my understanding the they have stricter rules and requirements for referees and medical training.  If someone knows of the differences I'd like to hear them.

One this is clear, he was a fully trained boxer not someone on a whim dared to fight.  He was living his dreams of becoming the greatest in his sport as do we all dream.  Now all we can do is remember his dedication, try to understand what happened, and try to make the sport safer.
